First REAL family vacation. What things do I need to do to plan a trip to Hawaii?

crystal asked:

Where do you look to find package deals for a hotel, car & flight?
This would be our first real family vacation…I have never dealt with planning something like this and have no clue where to go or how to even begin….I want the best priced package deal with flight/car/hotel and want to go to Poipu Beach in about a years time so this is why I’m starting now…Any tips would be great…Any reputable websites or agencies… It will be for a family of 5 or 6 if this matters…Thanks

I was in your exact position at one time (Key West, Fla.)
I went on-line and starting looking, searching and comparing.
Since you said you have a year,
you have plenty of time to find what you’re looking for.

Google Hawaiian Travel Deals / Packages.
Are you more the Holiday Inn type?
Or would you prefer a more local feel?
See, you need to look for what fits your family.
    I imagine, you’re more children then adults?…?…?
I could be wrong!; maybe your children are grown…?..?
You’ll need to find age appropriate entertainment, enjoyable fun.
Make sure, you make it to a Luau!!!
    Hula dancing lessons.
Horse back riding on the beach.
Are some into the arts? and others sports?
    Nature walks?
You’ll need to find Museums, sport parks, events…
    Surfing Competition!!
    Restaurants ~ I like the out-of-the-way,
treasures that you can find while scouring the Island.
    I did go for one, night of fine dining;
    other than that,
I didn’t want to use up my time & $$ just eating.
    I stayed busy.
Make sure you find an All-You-Can-Eat joint.
    (That’s a big family)
For at least one or two nights.
The Food Network often has shows featuring
    Hawaiian food and restaurants.
(Find out what ‘Poi’ is before you travel)
The Travel Channel, has shows quite often,
search out the Island you are going to.
Look up the Island on-line. It’s major city / cities.

You can write / call / email to the Chamber of Commerce
and get free information from them.
You can check events and so forth.
    Also, the Visitor’s canter.
Both of these places can help you with visitor’s guide books,
coupon books, maps of the Island, etc…

    Aloha!! ;~)

    Don’t get a timeshare!

Find a condo to stay in – they are the best deals, and you get a kitchen so you can save on food (going out is expensive there) and you’ll have a washer and dryer which is great with kids so you can wash the swimsuits, towels, etc. You can search for condos online. Here is a site. I’m sorry I’ve only been to Poipu (on Kauai) twice and that was for work so they put me up in a hotel, but I’ve been to Maui lots of times and lived there too, and I always stay in a condo when I go back.
Here’s a site that lists some condos to rent in Poipu.

I went to kauai a year ago.I don’t know about flights because we got our tickets with united and it was some deal. To get a good house you should go onto vrbo.com you can get a good house rental for it and for your car go onto priceline.com and you can get a good car rental price.
You will really like hawaii. You should snorkel it is awesome.
